The Possible Project’s Listening Tour: let’s get started!

Listening Tour

The Possible Project (TPP) is a multi-year entrepreneurship program in Greater Boston that bridges the Opportunity Gap by teaching high school students to start and run their own businesses. We chose entrepreneurship as our vehicle for two reasons:

  1. The thrill and struggle to build an idea into a real business is a powerful vehicle for building resilience, self-confidence, and social intelligence in young people — all strong predictors of academic and career success.
  2. Entrepreneurship is an economic survival skill in the new economy. Employers increasingly seek innovation-ready, self-starting problem solvers, and the rise of the “gig economy” and independent workers rewards those who possess an entrepreneurial skill set.

TPP has been operating for 5 years now, and we believe more than ever in the power of our mission to make an impactful difference in young people’s lives. And we’re growing fast; we’re on pace to reach 1,300 students a year in Greater Boston by 2020.

Beyond Greater Boston, we are also on a mission to scale youth entrepreneurship nationwide and eventually reach tens of thousands of high school students a year. This brings us to The Possible Project’s Listening Tour, which is our campaign to learn from world-class visionaries, entrepreneurs, educators and politicians on how to make a transformative difference in young people’s lives around the country.

There are three key goals underpinning TPP’s Listening Tour:

  1. Gather new ideas and feedback to improve our work to make a big difference in young people’s lives.
  2. Cultivate an ecosystem of national leaders and key influencers who are committed to innovative approaches to eliminating the Opportunity Gap.
  3. Apply experts’ feedback in creating a scalable plan to 50X our impact from 200 students to at least 10,000 students a year.

To help our Board of Directors explore and translate the big ideas into big action, we’ve assembled an extraordinary Team of Advisors that includes Gerald Chertavian, CEO of Year Up, Eric Schwarz, CEO of College for Social Innovation and the Founder of Citizen Schools, and Edward Glaeser, an expert on urban economies at Harvard.

The Listening Tour blog is our platform for sharing the great learning we come upon throughout this campaign. Stay tuned for our posts on interviews with renowned experts and discussions of great studies and journal articles. We are so excited to see where this journey will lead us in our mission to impact thousands of young lives- hope you’ll join us!
